Energy Transparency

Would being cognizant of one's energy usage on a micro level be effective to changing one's carbon footprint? Microsoft's Rob Bernard points out that such levels of granularity is not currently available. The question, he states, is whether or not companies like Google and Microsoft are driving energy efficiency. Google's William Weihl asks if such transparency in energy usage is a behavior-changing factor.
